LOCAL EATERIES

I work a lot and don’t really make it a priority to get out much; mostly because I’d rather be in bed cuddling with the pups and crowded places are no longer enjoyable as an anxious adult:) Plus when you cook, you have high expectations when you go out so we are a little picky when it comes to splurging on meals. However, we finally have been trying to treat ourselves every so often to some local places in the city, and let me tell you, there are certainly some gems here in PDX! Coming from Los Angeles, it was my mission to find places that hit close to home when I moved here. Some of the places I miss most are the local panaderias, the basic of basic DELICIOUS mexican breakfast burritos that you could get at any hold in the wall, and some very special places still very close to my heart. Food makes me feel like I’m home, like I belong, and to me it’s one of the best ways to show people you love them. I hope you enjoy the lists as we start to enjoy living here again, and as the kids say, TREAT YOSELF!

The TIN SHED on Alberta. Still one of my favorite doggy friendly brunch spots in the city. Two words - biscuits & gravy, baby.

PORTLAND, OREGON

Portland is named a foodie town, but coming from LA with there is SO much culture, so many flavors but there are a few gems in the city worth trying once, or three times in your life. Republica, and everything that these folks create is on that list. Teleport yourselves with a taste of culture, and enjoy the stories the staff presents with each dish. Not just for a fancy occasion, the thought behind each ingredient made my lil latina heart so happy and grateful! Definitely a must, along with some of their other ventures such as La Perlita and Matutina with the best pan dulce in the city! En serio!

HAT YAI

It all begins with an idea and this idea was inspired by the streetside fried chicken vendors and small curry and roti shops in Southern Thailand. Holy moly if you want flavor, Hat Yai is a must stop in PDX. Both dipping curries are insanely good, with sticky rice, roti and of course the star of the show—FRIED CHICKEN GOODNESS. A little citrusy, garlicky, and full of flavor, these folks work so hard that you’ll be craving this after. Don’t forget the Mango horchata, I promise, you need it. You need like 2 of them.
